Information on theses

General Information

Unfortunately, due to limited capacities, we are unable to offer thesis supervision to all interested students. To increase your chances of being considered for a thesis supervision, please read the following information carefully.

Please note that we only supervise theses that are thematically related to our research areas. You can find an overview of our research topics on the CCDI website (under “Research & Teaching”). If specific thesis topics are available, they will be listed on the Topic Marketplace

At the CCDI, we mainly supervise empirical theses (quantitative or qualitative methods possible). Literature reviews are only possible in well-founded exceptional cases. Furthermore, preference is given to students who have already attended our courses, including on organizational behaviour (bachelor’s level) or on dealing with inequality and social separation (master’s level).

Our expectation for students under our supervision is to work autonomously and maintain self-organisation throughout their thesis projects. While our supervisors are available for guidance, it is your responsibility to gather required information, adhere to deadlines, and drive your project forward proactively.

What you should bring

  • A genuine interest in, and ideally a specific topic idea related to, our research areas, e.g. diversity, inclusion, or new work
  • Ability to work independently and stay self-organized
  • Ability to conduct independent scientific literature research and utilizing literature databases (e.g., Scopus, EBSCOhost, Web of Science)
  • Basic understanding of empirical social research methods (e.g., surveys, interview studies)
  • Willingness to independently collect and analyse empirical data
  • Familiarity with common data analysis and evaluation tools (e.g., R, Stata, SPSS, ATLAS.ti) is a plus. However, we at least expect a willingness to learn these tools, and we are happy to support you with more advanced statistical evaluations.
